30 years ago, Salzburg paediatrician Werner Waldmann founded the aid organization “Austrian Doctors”. Since then, the group of doctors has been trying to alleviate the plight of poor people in developing countries. The Lungau-based company Samson Druck has been supporting the organization for many years. Now Lisa Frost, the company’s junior manager, has joined the board of the organization, which has been rejuvenated.
Austrian doctors volunteer to provide unpaid medical assistance in various projects in Africa and Asia. They are also involved in education, supporting schools in slums and training local staff. The doctors cover most of the expenses themselves. The rest – mainly equipment and medicines – is financed by donations. “We are very grateful for such donations, and fortunately we can also count on the sponsorship of companies such as Samson in addition to the donations of many Austrians,” explains Werner Waldmann. The 90-year-old is still active in the association on a voluntary basis.
Raise awareness, promote more continuous support
Lisa Frost and her fellow board members – in addition to her as the economic partner, Werner Waldmann’s granddaughter, gynecologist Pia Nigisch, is also a new member of the board – primarily want to raise awareness of Austrian Doctors and achieve more attention for the important work of the doctors. “We have set ourselves the goal of not only soliciting one-off donations in future, but also continuous support for our projects,” says Frost.
