Basic medical care

Our new Medical Center opened on the first floor of our training center in Dhaka in February 2023. Two local doctors and one gynecologist are currently employed for five days a week – the clinic is open from Sunday to Thursday, as is usual in Bangladesh. Up to 300 patients are treated each week.

To make access as easy as possible, the treatment costs are around 25 cents, which is very affordable even by local standards. This ensures that no one is excluded from basic medical care at the Medical Center due to high costs. If someone is unable to pay this amount, they are still treated. Since this is, of course, not cost-covering, we also need your support to continue providing this essential assistance.

Free medication

In the first room, patients are registered, weighed, and have their temperature taken. They then wait in the designated waiting area. The examination takes place with the doctor. Since these are basic medical treatments, patients requiring more complex care or tests are referred to local health facilities. In certain cases, these costs are also covered. After the examination, patients receive their prescribed medication for free at the in-house pharmacy located in the next room. This ensures that they actually receive the medicine they need and do not later have to choose between, for example, life-saving medication and a hot meal.

In 2026, we further improved the quality of our medical services by acquiring a fixed ultrasound machine, an ECG device, and other equipment, and by setting up our own laboratory, where all blood and stool samples can now be analyzed on-site.

Deployment of volunteer doctors from Austria

As has already been tried and tested in the past, Austrian Doctors has been offering volunteer assignments for doctors from Austria and Europe again since September 2024. In addition to the work in our medical center in the training center, we also have a mobile clinic. The background to this is that many of our patients cannot afford transportation to us. So we decided to use the mobile clinic to visit people where they live. Various poor areas of Dhaka are visited on a regular basis. The volunteer doctors from Europe support the local staff here – and both sides benefit enormously from this cooperation. In addition, medical missions are planned for our rural project in Gazipur, which is currently in the construction phase.
