Christmas with a heart

Christmas is a time of giving and charity. It is an opportunity to do good and stand up for others. Whether through donations to charities, volunteering in local communities or simply small acts of kindness to fellow human beings, sharing love and prosperity helps to make the festive season brighter for all. In the midst of the festivities, let’s not forget how much power there is in sharing and how small gestures can make big differences.

Merry Christmas!

Christmas thoughts from Dr. Christian Gruber

Dear friends,

We are facing many global challenges. However, the state of our world is not an inevitable fate, but the result of human action. For thousands of years, we have been shaped by an awareness of revenge, envy and ego instead of community. But there is also an alternative way of thinking that focuses on love, cooperation and responsibility.

Together with local doctors, we look after sick people who have no access to medical care. We build wells for clean drinking water and finance schools, meals and scholarships.

Yes, our experience is that many people are not indifferent to the future of us humans and our planet. They are responding to the many challenges, they are taking responsibility. They are contributing to a new common world. They bring to life what we celebrate every year at Christmas.

May the Christmas season be blessed!

Yes, I would like to donate for Christmas

Your donation arrives

Since 2019, we have also been awarded the seal of approval for donations. This is the highest seal of approval for fundraising associations in Austria. The basis for obtaining this seal of approval is an annual, strict audit by an auditor with regard to the use of funds, low administrative costs, etc. This gives you as a donor the assurance that your donation will be handled responsibly by Austrian Doctors. Furthermore, donations to Austrian Doctors are tax-deductible in Austria.

Thoughts from CEO Dr. Pia Nigisch on women's health

Almost half of the world’s population are women. Although women live longer, they spend fewer years in good health. Women are significantly more affected by socio-economic health factors, especially poverty, than men. It is precisely for this reason that Austrian Doctors’ educational projects, where girls and boys are supported equally, not only make a difference to professional careers, but are also an important aspect of disease prevention for girls and adolescent women in the broadest sense. The health risks of women, their health behavior and the course of their illnesses differ from those of men. Therefore, when we think of women’s health in the countries of the global South, we should not only think of the need for well-trained midwives and gynecologists. We should also think about the need to train healthcare professionals in other disciplines besides gynecology, and that also involves education. Therefore, as a gynaecologist, as a woman and as the mother of a daughter, our school projects and scholarship programs are just as important to me as the medical projects and the workshops on family planning and sexual health at the Community Center in Awasi. Only increasing education for all children, regardless of gender, can bring long-term change. I am therefore delighted that our school projects in Kenya, India and Bangladesh, with their educational content and support for girls, are a small piece of the puzzle in the larger goal of improving women’s health.
