Gandaria School

Gandaria School was founded in 1992 and provides education for children from nursery (preschool) up to 8th grade. Approximately 300 students attend the school, which is run by a team of 12 staff members. The local NGO “Glory Future Model School” is, as with Manda School, the operating organization. The students come from very poor backgrounds, including children of rickshaw drivers, domestic helpers, street cleaners, garment industry workers, vegetable sellers, tea vendors, and many others.

The location of the Gandaria School

Originally, the Gandaria School was located directly on the railroad tracks, where children from the surrounding poor settlements were taught under the most basic conditions. However, all the settlements along the railroad were and still are being destroyed by the government. As a result, the school is now located in a rented building just a few hundred meters away from where it was founded.

Offer of the Gandaria School

To counter the challenges of malnutrition, the children are served a hot meal every school day. Thanks to regular home visits, the drop-out rate is very low as parents are persuaded to send their children to school instead of making them work.

The pupils receive

  • school materials and
  • a school uniform,

and have to make a small contribution of school fees. If someone is unable to pay this contribution due to financial difficulties, the child may of course continue to attend the school.

The school-leaving certificate is officially recognized and students have the opportunity to attend secondary schools at their own expense.

Particularly talented schoolkids also have the opportunity to attend secondary school and later even university through an Austrian Doctors scholarship program. This enables them to develop their full potential and shape a promising future.

"I have been working with Austrian Doctors for many years. Many years in which, thanks to you, countless children have been able to go to school and learn. Education is the future of Bangladesh."
