Departure for Dhaka – With the Austrian Doctors in Bangladesh
The decision to join the Austrian Doctors in Bangladesh after my retirement came surprisingly quickly – and it immediately felt right.

For many people, education is the best way to build a better future. This is why Austrian Doctors has been supporting schools in the slum areas of Dhaka for 30 years. The largest school is the Manda School with around 1,300 children.

30 years ago, Brother Ephrem had the dream of creating a slum school for the poorest children in the poor sister city of Calcutta, Howrah. After 30 years, the demand is very high.

The kindergarten in Awasi, Kenya, is a daycare center for the youngest children in the area. The children can be carefree and safe here, are allowed to play and are supervised by trained teachers.

Our new medical project opened on the first floor of our training center in Dhaka in February 2023. It treats up to 300 patients a day and has its own pharmacy.

Together with our partner organization Kamina Social Welfare Society, we provide medical care for those who no one else can help. In addition to general health checks, eye and dental check-ups are also offered in these camps.

A lack of access to clean drinking water has an impact on health, educational opportunities and the economic development of entire settlement areas. We are therefore building a drinking water supply system in the small town of Busa.

Our trip to Kenya this year was marked by many moving moments, personal encounters, and encouraging developments in the projects.

On October 15, our first donor meeting will take place. The theme is: “The Projects of Austrian Doctors. Focus: Kenya.”

This informational evening will cover the legal situation in Austria. Do you know how the statutory inheritance rules are exactly regulated? Who is entitled to a compulsory portion? And what makes a legacy special? A lecture by an expert will clarify these and many other questions free of charge.

On November 22, 2025, we have the great honor of Angelika Kirchschlager and Alfred Dorfer hosting a charity evening for us.
