In some cases, there are opportunities for particularly talented students from our schools in Dhaka to continue to receive financial support after completing primary school so that they can attend secondary school and then go to university.
Since the demand for scholarships is naturally very high, careful consideration is given to who is admitted to the program. First, graduates of the final class must submit an application. A home visit is then conducted to evaluate the family’s personal situation on-site, with a particular focus on financial circumstances. Once these evaluations are completed for all candidates, those who are most in need are selected.
Each year, 30 young men and women participate in the scholarship program. Many of them later return to our schools as teachers, helping other children affected by poverty to gain better opportunities through education.
An example is the story of Halima Akter. She was born in 1998 and attended Manda School. In 2012, she was among the first young women to benefit from the scholarship program. In 2020, she graduated with a BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration). She currently teaches at our Gandaria School while pursuing her MBA. She is happy to teach at this school because it allows her to give back. She herself says that without Manda School, she probably would never have had the chance to receive an education.
