Medical care in West Bengal

Together with our partner organization Kamina Social Welfare Society, we provide medical care for those who no one else can help.

Some of these medical camps are held in our old people’s home in India, but often these camps also take place in other places, where they go to the poorest of the poor to provide them with medical care.

General health and eye camps

Austrian Doctors helps its partner organization Kamina to run general health camps and special eye camps. The locations change so that as many people in need as possible can benefit from these health camps. Some of them take place on Kamia’s premises, some in the premises of “Golden Heaven” and some directly at the brickworks, for example, to give impoverished workers access to the all-important health checks.

At the so-called “eye camps”, we work together with volunteer ophthalmologists from the surrounding clinics. The people receive examinations, are operated on if necessary and are also provided with glasses.

Patients also receive free medicine when it is needed.

Our work and the SDGs

The following UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are being promoted with the help of this project:

Information about the partner

The Kamina Social Welfare Society was founded in India in 1979 with the aim of organizing schools for the children of workers on the brickfields. These are mainly Bihar nomads who move to West Bengal with their families as seasonal workers to work in brick production. In the meantime, the project has changed somewhat. In an ashram renovated by the founder Mantu Shee himself, 30 senior citizens have the opportunity to spend their twilight years. We also run medical camps together to help the poor population.

We also support the St. Francis Assisi School
In the early 1990s, Prado brother Ephrem had the dream of paving the way to a better future for young children in Howrah through education. After more than 35 years, the demand is still very high.
