Reopening of schools

The big vacation is over - all our schools in India, Bangladesh and Kenya reopened their doors in January 2024.

Reopening of our schools: In Bangladesh, around 1,400 children are currently attending the schools financed by Austrian Doctors. The school year begins with our calendar year. As there is simply not enough space in the school buildings to teach all the children at the same time, lessons take place in “shifts”. The younger children start in the morning, and when they go to lunch, lessons for the older children begin in the classrooms that have been freed up.

The school year in India runs from May to March. The almost 500 pupils at our St. Francis Assisi School therefore still have a good month of school ahead of them before they go on vacation. While it is quiet in class, there is always a lot of noise and crowds in the schoolyard during the big break. No wonder, when 500 children want to play or chat with their best friends at the same time. But as soon as the bell rings to signal the end of the break, everyone is quickly back in their classes and the whole area is quiet again.

In Kenya, the new school year began in January. A total of almost 300 children are attending Eroret Preparatory School this year, from pre-primary to eighth grade. The children are very much looking forward to implementing our new agricultural project, which was made possible by the well built in 2023. In future, the children will learn how to farm on the school’s own fields and thus contribute to providing school meals.
