Update – Korail two weeks after the fire disaster

Two days after the fire disaster, we packed the first emergency aid kits and began cooking meals for the families of our students.

However, food is also distributed to other particularly affected individuals. The need is great, and on most days around 1,500 people — sometimes up to 2,000 — are provided with meals.

Since people truly lost everything in the fire, we also began purchasing and distributing blankets, tarpaulins, and essential necessities — again focusing on the families of our students.

By a miracle, our school in Korail was largely spared from the flames. The schoolyard is currently being used both for cooking and as a storage and distribution area for blankets, tarpaulins, and other essentials. In addition, our medical project in Korail is still taking place at the school — just as it did before the fire — but at the moment not only on two days a week, but daily.

A report on the fire and the aid provided by the Austrian Doctors was also featured on ORF’s Salzburg heute. You can watch it here: Report on Salzburg heute.

Our team in Bangladesh is doing an outstanding job responding as best as possible to the catastrophic situation in Korail. On site, the regular team is supported not only by our volunteer field doctor, Dr. Irmgard Üblagger, but also by many local volunteers who help us carry out all the work. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of them.
