Garden calendar for the boarding school in Kenya

Giving the future with a garden calendar - school project for the Austrian Doctors.

We are a group of six schoolgirls from HAK Bad Ischl who created and sold a garden calendar as part of a school project. We wanted to use the proceeds not only to set an example for sustainability, but also to do something good. That’s why we decided to donate the money to Austrian Doctors.

As part of the school project, we were able to use four teaching units every Monday to work on our own ideas in groups. We wanted to create something that not only added value for us, but also for others – and that’s how the idea for the garden calendar came about. Our aim was to inspire people to be more conscious about food, buy less and grow more themselves. We have therefore collected practical tips, suggestions and inspiration for gardening in the calendar. To ensure that our calendar remains sustainable, we had it printed on environmentally friendly paper and then sold it for €8 per copy.

The decision to donate the profits was an easy one. After careful consideration, we decided to support the Eroret Boarding School” project in Kenya. A boarding school for girls is being built there to save them the often hours-long journey to school and to provide them with a safe and supportive learning environment. Education is a matter of course for us – but for many girls in Kenya it is a privilege that often remains out of reach due to long distances, unsafe school conditions and social barriers. We are therefore delighted to make a contribution with our donation to ensuring that girls in particular have a real chance of an education.
