Together with ‘Menschen für Menschen’ we are currently implementing a water project in Ethiopia. Our project partner has been working in Ethiopia for decades and therefore has a lot of experience and contacts in the country.
This project is being funded by the province of Salzburg with € 300,000 and is being implemented in the small rural town of Busa. Busa is located in the Oromia region around 95 kilometers southwest of Addis Ababa and has a population of around 30,000.
With over 90 ethnic groups and just as many languages Ethiopia is a multi-ethnic country and also the most populous landlocked country in the world. A major obstacle to development is rapid population growth in a traditionally rural environment that often lacks basic infrastructure.
In many parts of Ethiopia there is still no supply of clean drinking water. Many people therefore have to use unprotected water sources every day to provide for their own families. In addition to the health consequences of contaminated water the inhabitants have to invest a lot of time and effort every day in fetching drinking water for their families. This task is primarily carried out by women and girls. The loss of time is therefore often at the expense of the personal development of the female population. Our aim is to create a sustainable solution to the above-mentioned problems by investing in the municipal water supply in Busa.
