Clean water changes lives. Thanks to a generous donation of €40,000 from the Salzmann family, a much-needed solar-powered water well was built for our projects in Awasi, Kenya. The Mary Hill Nursery School, the Mary Hill Community Center, and the surrounding community all benefit from this vital resource. Today, local residents have access to clean water, creating better conditions for health, hygiene, and education.
Clean water means far more than access to safe drinking water. It improves health, hygiene, and safety while creating better opportunities for education. Children can only learn successfully when their basic needs are met. At the same time, women and girls gain valuable time: instead of walking up to 13 kilometres to the nearest water source during the dry season, they can attend school or pursue vocational training.
We are especially grateful for the Salzmann family’s support of this project. Through their company, ETS Salzmann, they have been committed to water and environmental technology for many years and understand the vital importance of access to clean water for communities around the world.
As part of the celebration marking the 40th anniversary of ETS Salzmann and the birthday of the company’s founder, Claus Salzmann, Austrian Doctors was featured in the commemorative publication. Prior to the event, guests were invited to donate to Austrian Doctors instead of bringing gifts. They also had the opportunity to support our projects through donation boxes at the venue. In addition, we were able to present our work in person and engage in meaningful conversations with the guests.
Austrian Doctors was represented at the celebration by founding and board member Dr. Christian Gruber, Ursula Gruber, and Managing Director Isabella Röhrich. The personal conversations throughout the event once again demonstrated how much can be achieved when businesses take social responsibility.
Today, the solar-powered water well provides our project in Awasi with a reliable supply of clean water. For the children, this means better hygiene, improved health, and an environment where learning can thrive. Girls, in particular, now have greater opportunities to attend school and pursue their education.
