Austrian Doctors was founded in 2008 by Dr. Werner Waldmann and Dr. Christian Gruber as a non-profit association in accordance with \u00a7 4a EstG. But the first projects began much earlier. 1983: Foundation of the “Doctors for Developing Countries” committee (now German Doctors) in Frankfurt<\/p>

1985: Contact and financial support from Dr. Werner Waldmann<\/p>

1989: Short and long-term assignments by Dr. Werner Waldmann in the Philippines, India and Bangladesh<\/p>

1990: Foundation of the St. Francis Assisi School<\/a> in Kolkata, India with project partner Brother Ephrem<\/p>

1991: Foundation of the school<\/a> in Dhaka, Bangladesh with project partner Babul Aminul Hoq<\/p>

1998: St. Francis Assisi School was named the most humanitarian school in West Bengal (Writers Prize)<\/p>

2008: Foundation of the association “Austrian Doctors for Developing Countries” by Dr. Werner Waldmann and Dr. Christian Gruber<\/p>

2011: Film project in Dhaka, Bangladesh with Christian Wei\u00df in cooperation with Servus TV<\/p>

Since 2012: Annual punch stand at the Christmas market <\/a>in Salzburg and annual charity concerts<\/p>

2015: Appointment of a full-time manager for the association<\/p>

2016: Renaming of the association to “Austrian Doctors”<\/p>

2017: Start of construction of the training center<\/a> in Dhaka, Bangladesh<\/p>

2017: Start of support for the MAA Eroret School<\/a> for Maasai children, Kenya<\/p>

2017: A second employee is hired due to growth.<\/p>

2018: Grand celebration to mark the 90th birthday of association founder Dr. Werner Waldmann and the 10th anniversary of the founding of Austrian Doctors. Dr. Werner Waldmann is honored for his life’s work as “Austrian of the Year” in the field of humanitarian commitment<\/p>

2018: Start of construction of the daycare center<\/a> and community center<\/a> Awasi, Kenya<\/p>

2018: Dr. Werner Waldmann is presented with the Austrian Badge of Honour for Services to the Republic at the Federal Chancellery<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

2019: Austrian Doctors is a partner of the “One Mile for a Smile” charity run<\/a> in Salzburg for the first time and an exclusive partner of the Everyman Run<\/p>

2020: Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the focus is on distributing food and hygiene packages. All health centers are temporarily closed, but will reopen in the course of the year. Schools are closed for most of the year, but online lessons keep children up to date<\/p>

2021: In January 2021, our project partner Brother Ephrem passed away as a result of a Covid infection. The Eroret School in Kenya gets solar cells and thus electricity.<\/p>

2021: Dr. Werner Waldmann steps down as Chairman, but remains on the Board as Deputy Secretary. Dr. Christian Gross becomes the new Chairman.<\/p>

2021: A large water project in Ethiopia<\/a> worth \u20ac 300,000 is approved by the state of Salzburg, partner is “Menschen f\u00fcr Menschen”.<\/p>

2022: All projects are up and running again after the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>

2023: New well for the MAA Eroret School. First training courses and medical project<\/a> start in our training center in Dhaka. The drilling of the wells in Ethiopia was successful. A project trip with photographer Joachim Bergauer resulted in a beautiful photo book of our projects in Dhaka.<\/p>

2024: Launch of agricultural<\/a> and reforestation<\/a> projects in Kenya and the Mobile Clinic<\/a> in Dhaka.<\/p>

2025: Launch of the Golden Heaven<\/a> project in India and the boarding school<\/a> in Eroret, Kenya.<\/p>
