On October 23, the gala for the “Austrian of the Year” award took place in the beautiful Sofiensäle in Vienna. Maria Graf and Severin Schwaiger accompanied Dr. Werner Waldmann, the founder of Austrian Doctors. His wife Rosemarie and two of his six children were part of the winning team that evening – representing the entire team in Salzburg.
For the 15th time, the daily newspaper “Die Presse” honored people who have made outstanding achievements in their respective fields. The various categories are International Success, Family and Career, Research, Responsible Business, Cultural Heritage and Humanitarian Commitment. Renowned political figures joined in the celebrations that evening.
The Austrians of the Year were determined in two stages: The “Presse” readers and users of the website first determined the three finalists in each category with their votes. An expert jury then selected the winners from the top three.
Dr. Werner Waldmann’s words of thanks were directed at the work of the Austrian Doctors and the fact that the 10,000 euros in prize money represent the true value of recognition for us:
“We were delighted by the honorable recognition of the Austrian Doctors’ work. However, it will only help our entrusted poor if the praise is followed by effective help.
