…we support them in their education. Over 1,600 schoolchildren attend our schools in Dhaka, Bangladesh, every day. These are children from the poorest of backgrounds, whose parents earn just enough to survive as day laborers. The day’s earnings are invested directly in food – which is why many parents in Bangladesh send their children to work so that they can support their families as best they can in the short term. Having enough food for the children is of course a top priority for the parents.
To counteract this, the schoolchildren in our education projects receive a free, nutritious, warm meal every day. This is a great incentive for many of the parents to send their children to school in the first place. Of course, the children also receive an education that has a positive impact on their lives, as they learn to read, write, do maths, speak English etc. and are informed about their rights.
In addition to our education projects, basic medical care is the second pillar of our work. In the poor areas of Dhaka and rural regions in India, we are helping to give people the access to medical care they so urgently need.
Please support us so that we can continue to give children the opportunity of a better future through education.
Thank you very much for your support!

"When I went to Bangladesh many years ago to provide medical aid on a voluntary basis, I would never have thought that such an important organization would emerge. The Austrian Doctors stand for hope, cooperation and sustainable change. Our work is a matter close to my heart and I am grateful that together we can help so many people to lead a better life."
Dr. Werner Waldmann, founder of Austrian Doctors

For many people, education is the best way to build a better future. This is why Austrian Doctors has been supporting schools in the slum areas of Dhaka for 30 years.

30 years ago, Brother Ephrem had the dream of creating a slum school for the poorest children in the poor sister city of Calcutta, Howrah. After 30 years, the demand is very high.

The kindergarten in Awasi, Kenya, is a daycare center for the youngest children in the area. The children can be carefree and safe here, are allowed to play and are supervised by trained teachers.

Our new medical project opened on the first floor of our training center in Dhaka in February 2023. It treats up to 300 patients a day and has its own pharmacy.

Together with our partner organization Kamina Social Welfare Society, we provide medical care for those who no one else can help. In addition to general health checks, eye and dental check-ups are also offered in these camps.

A lack of access to clean drinking water has an impact on health, educational opportunities and the economic development of entire settlement areas. We are therefore building a drinking water supply system in the small town of Busa.
Austrian Doctors is an internationally active Austrian aid organization that was founded in Salzburg in 2008. Our focus is on medical aid and education, and we are committed to helping people regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, social status, religion, nationality or political opinion.
Our target group are people in “chronic crisis areas” who have no access to medical care and education. Our medical focus is on medicine for the poor. In addition to direct medical support, our work also includes measures to improve the local infrastructure, such as the construction of wells for clean drinking water. We also support children and adults through school and training projects to enable them to lead a self-determined life in their home countries. We work closely with local partners to ensure long-term and sustainable development.
We are active in areas where poverty is omnipresent, education is not accessible despite compulsory schooling and medical care is a luxury.
Together with our volunteer doctors, we have been able to treat tens of thousands of patients over the years. Almost 2,500 children from the poorest backgrounds currently attend our schools, where they not only receive an education but also a hot meal. This has already made a positive difference to the lives of many children.
For us, every single fate justifies our full commitment. We believe that together we can make the world a fairer place.
Thank you very much for your support along the way!
"As a member of Austrian Doctors, I have seen how we not only provide medical aid, but also give hope and prospects. Every mission shows me anew how important our work is and motivates me to continue giving my all for those who need our help the most."
Dr. Christian Gruber, co-founder and board member of Austrian Doctors
Since 2019, we have also been awarded the seal of approval for donations. This is the highest seal of approval for fundraising associations in Austria. The basis for obtaining this seal of approval is an annual, strict audit by an auditor with regard to the use of funds, low administrative costs, etc. This gives you as a donor the assurance that your donation will be handled responsibly by Austrian Doctors. Furthermore, donations to Austrian Doctors are tax-deductible in Austria.
"Every single child who receives an education and a nutritious lunch in our schools justifies the entire work of Austrian Doctors. Behind every child there is a family, a destiny, wishes, hopes and dreams. I am happy to contribute through my work to making a better future possible for thousands and thousands of children through education!"
Severin Schwaiger, Managing Director Austrian Doctors
